DIY Citrus and Lavender Whipped Body Scrub

DIY Citrus and Lavender Whipped Body Scrub

If you’re anything like me you sort of go body scrub crazy during the summer time. A lot more of our body is constantly exposed at this time of year and we want it to look nice and glowy, not cracked or dry! I have a lot of fun buying different scrubs and trying them out at this time of year, but it’s also fun to make them with ingredients on hand, so I’m going to show you how I did that today!

Whipped Body Scrub vs. Regular Body Scrub:

The biggest difference is really the ingredients. Typical body scrubs are made by mixing a coarse material (sugar, salt, etc.) with a liquid oil (sweet almond oil, olive oil, etc.). Whipped body scrubs are made by  mixing a coarse material and mixing it with a butter of some sort (coconut oil, shea butter, etc.). In my experience, regular body scrubs tend to be a bit more harsh, which can be ok when you have a ton of exfoliating to do. I still love these, but whipped body scrubs are a bit more gentle and therefore I feel more comfortable using them often. The butter aspect also makes you feel nice and moisturized. I think you’ll love how easy it is to make at home so let me show you! 🙂

Get out your stand mixer or hand mixer because in order for this to be a whipped body scrub you’re going to have the whip it (shocker). Add your coconut oil and mix on medium high for 1 minute. Place it in the freezer for a few minutes, then take it out and whip it for 2 minutes.

Add your sugar (I used plain white sugar but any should work) and whip for another 2 minutes. Here is the stage where you can add food coloring if you please. I decided to try it out and made mine a nice creamsicle orange. However, you can leave it un-colored for a truly natural product. If you do decide to add it, mix it in until fully colored.

Last step is the scent! I used three essential oils: Lavender, Wild Orange, and Bergamot. The result is a nice fresh summer-y smell. If you have high quality essential oils, you should only use a few drops of each. Mix until well combined and fragrant.

That’s it! Store in an airtight container. This recipe makes enough to fill a standard mason jar. I hope you’ll give this a try and let me know your thoughts!
