Fall 2020 Fashion Trends

Fall 2020 Fashion Trends

One of my favorite parts of fall is the fashion! I absolutely love styling outfits at this time of year as I tend to get a little trendier and edgier with my fashion taste. This year, I will probably not be buying too many fall pieces because we are still in a pandemic and apart from work, I’m not really going anywhere. However, I still love looking at the trends every season and I don’t think that’s something that will ever change. My advice for all you fashion lovers this year who don’t want to waste money on clothes that might not get worn: buy a couple trendy pieces you can wear with what you already have and/or only outfits for special occasions. For example, I know I’m taking fall graduation photos this October so I bought some outfits for that, and I’ll probably buy an outfit for Thanksgiving if we are allowed to spend it with the family! Ok enough of the boring talk– let’s go over some autumn 2020 fashion trends!

1. Neutral Tones:

I won’t say no to that! I absolutely love neutral tones at all times, but I have been loving seeing people style a blend of beiges and browns for fall this year. I think something like brown plaid pants, a cream colored sweater and a brown leather jacket would look absolutely stunning together. There’s probably a thousand outfit ideas for combining neutrals, and that’s the beauty of them! You might think “boring” by an all neutral look, but if done right it can look so chic! I can’t wait to experiment this season.

2. Plaid:

I consider this a fall trend every year because I absolutely love it, I keep it in the category of fall classics, something I’m not sure will ever go out of style. However, this year it seems to be extra popular, which I am so excited about! It’s so easy to feel stylish for fall by simply throwing on a plaid skirt or plaid pants with a top, or even a plaid dress and boots. You can also dress plaid pieces up for something more fancy or down for something more casual. It’s always been a fall win in my book.

3.  Jewel Tones:

Another fall classic that I’m glad to see is gaining popularity this season! I’m a little biased because I feel most confident in jewel tones, but they are great and a really non-intimidating way to add color to your look for the fall season. Colors like emerald, sapphire, deep purples, deep pinks and maroon all scream fall to me! Especially this year, deep citrine/yellows seem to be standing out among them all! I typically go for dresses in these tones or blouses that can be paired easily with black or neutral pants and skirts! Which colors would you try?

4. Prep:

All you Gossip Girl lovers out there, now is the time to channel your inner Blair Waldorf. Think tailored fits, tweed, skirts, tights, collared shirts, headbands and classic accessories. The preppy style will always make its way back and become trendy every once in a while. The best part about that is most preppy pieces are timeless and will always be in-style, but they’re also easy to change up to suit the times! Plus, you can always take pieces of prep and wear it with other outfits. I think it would be fun to add a headband to a more cozy outfit or a blazer to jeans and a crop top. You get the idea! Have fun with it.

5. Lots of Leather:

Leather on leather on leather. I’ve noticed so many leather looks on the runways this year! A leather jacket is a classic fall staple, something that I look forward to putting on every year. This year it could be fun to experiment with leather pants, a jumpsuit, headbands, and boots of course! A leather jacket with a sweater, and leather shorts could be a less scary way to do a leather on leather look. For my personal taste, I wouldn’t go too crazy on the layering, but I’m definitely going to try and incorporate it more this season. I’d recommend faux-leather, as there are some decent quality options nowadays and it’s more vegan friendly.

6. Statement Collars:

The statement collar was a huge fall fashion hit my first couple years of high school (remember the jeweled Peter Pan collar, anyone?)! 5 years later and I don’t think it is something I’ve really worn since. Tons of tops with statement collars hit the runways for fall this year, and I have to say I’m pretty excited we are revisiting this trend! My favorite way to wear tops with statement collars is with pants and skirts, and heeled booties to tone it down a bit. From blouses to sweaters, you will probably see the statement collar a lot this season!

7. 70’s Vibes:

I absolutely love this for fall! Think earth tones, wide leg pants, retro sweaters and jackets! I feel that the 70’s look has been inspiring fashion for quite some time now, so it makes perfect sense that that would carry into fall. It should be quite easy to access 70’s inspired pieces at this time since they seem to be in all the stores at the moment. It could even be fun to pair with some fringe pieces, another huge trend this year. Plus, trust me, the vintage 70’s look will look absolutely adorable for pictures at a pumpkin patch this year 😉

I’m in-love with all of the trending fall pieces this year. Pretty much all of them scream classic fall to me, and I think that is why I am so excited about them. It’s a little sad to think some of these trends won’t get worn out to their full potential because of the pandemic and less events happening, but I’m still looking forward to experimenting with these classics and incorporating them into what I wear to work or small (key word small), family or friend events. Hope you all have a fun and healthy autumn season! Check out my last autumn post for how you can make the most of the season this year, even with everything that is going on! Let me know which fall 2020 fashion trends you are most excited to try out.

With Love,
