Well, this summer certainly wasn’t what we all expected but I’ve still been trying to delight in the little things I love about summer! I think I’ve used my own pool more than I ever have in the past and have had barbecue nights and summer desserts that have actually been so wonderful. Another thing I love about summer is the beauty trends! I love the bronzed and highlighted looks that never seem to go out of style and the new additions that come each year. I thought it would be fun to break down all my favorites this year here on the blog! Even though I didn’t have as many excuses to get ready this year, I’ve found these categories to be my recent favorites and I can’t wait to share 🙂
1. Natural, Dewy Skin:
To be honest with you, I really love the dewy skin look all year round because I have pretty dry skin and I like to look glowy all the time. However, I love it especially in the summer time. Partly because if you sweat your makeup isn’t going to look or feel like it’s completely deteriorating on your face, and partly because it makes you look like you’ve been walking by the beach. Plus it’s easy peasy and takes a little less effort. I love using a lightweight foundation and I always make sure to use a hydrating primer. If my skin is really dry I’ll start with a facial oil and moisturizer!

Here are some of my favorite products that help me achieve this look:
Clinique Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Foundation (reflects the light for the perfect glowy look and still offers decent coverage)
Botanics 100% Organic Nourishing Facial Oil (extra hydration that helps skin redness)
NYX Hydratouch Primer (hylauronic primer that leaves your skin plump and hydrated)
GlamGlow Glow Starter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer (lightweight and glowy)
2. Flushed Cheeks-AKA Lots of Blush:
Similar to my spring favorites breakdown, blush is a summer go-to for me. Adding blush more heavily to the cheeks is a recent trend that is a little intimidating, but if blended correctly it is super cute. I love adding extra blush in the summer to my cheeks a little higher up than usual and across my nose, places where you would naturally get either a little flushed or sun-kissed. It makes you look like you’ve spent time in the sun in a healthy way, without actually having to spend too much time in the sun (which is a plus). For the most natural look I use cream blushes and when I want it to last I add powder blush on top.

Here are my favorites for summer:
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Achiote (a brighter rose shade)
Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam (perfect peach-y color)
Nudestix Nudies Matte Blush & Bronze in In The Nude (gorgeous nude, goes with everything)
Kaleidoscope Cosmetics Soft as Skin Blush in Primadonna (for a little shimmer that’s not obnoxious)
3. Bronzed, Glowy Skin:
This one is a given for the summer season. While I use bronzer all year round I love using extra at this time of year, especially shimmery bronzers, or paired with my favorite highlighter. For the most natural look I love using a cream bronzer and blending it in well and then using a more shimmery bronzer on top! I also love cream highlighters, shocker, for a really beautiful, natural glow. I always finish my face makeup with a setting spray for even more glow!

Here are the products I’ve been loving:
Charlotte Tilbury The Hollywood Contour Duo (they blend so well, definitely worth the $$)
Pixi Glow Mist (my favorite setting spray)
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter & Sunlit Bronzer (different pattern this year but I believe it is the same product)
Ciate Dewy Stix in Glow (transparent so perfect for all skin tones, this is my absolute favorite)
4. Tinted Lip Balm:
Keeping with the theme of lighter makeup, I mostly only wear tinted lip balms and glosses in the summer. While I love lipstick, I’m constantly worried about it melting or wearing off, especially here in the AZ heat. I absolutely love rosy and pink tinted glosses and balms at this type of year, or brighter tinted balms that make it look like you just ate a popsicle. Plus it’s super easy to apply!

Here are my current favorites:
Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm in Sunny Berry (my favorite everyday product, plus it has SPF!)
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick Balm in Plum Tunique
E.L.F. Sheer Slick Lipstick in Wild Peach (these are so cheap and so great)
Inn Beauty Project Lip Oil in Glaze #1 (the most addicting gloss, doesn’t get weird on your lips)
Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Pillow Plump XXL Lip Plumping Gloss in Pinkwell
5. Natural or Colorful Eyes and Feathery Brows:
It’s been one or the other for me this summer. Most days I find myself just using one neutral eyeshadow and minimal liner, but I have noticed people using a lot of color and pastels and I’ve been loving it! I also have been trying to keep my brows as natural as possible and making sure to brush them up. A brow pencil is the most fool-proof way to get my brows done quickly, but when I have more time I’ve been using an eyebrow marker pen instead for more hair-like strokes, which results in your eyebrows looking like they’ve been laminated when you brush them up. I’m loving this trend!

Here’s what I’ve been using the most:
Glossier Skywash in Valley (really natural, but very matte and bright so it still pops)
Glossier Brow Flick (my favorite brow marker pen)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow-Wiz (my favorite brow pencil)
Colourpop BFF Liquid Liner in Numero Uno (great cheap black eyeliner that stays put!)
Colourpop Shadow Palette in Going Coconuts
Tarte Seashell Palette (discontinued but Colourpop has great colorful options for cheap!)
6. Sunscreen and Skincare:
Perhaps the most important thing to discuss is SPF! Not only do we need to wear it to protect ourselves from sunburn but wearing sunscreen also protects more delicate skin from aging more rapidly. I’m extremely picky about sunscreen, especially facial sunscreen, as it needs to sit well under makeup and not leave a white cast on the face. I also don’t like wearing heavy body sunscreen everyday so I found a great daily lotion with SPF. Lastly, if your skin stays dry in summer like me (AZ heat offers no moisture), I’ve found a daily moisturizer that looks great when you’re wearing shorts and sundresses, and does the job well.

Here’s all my picks:
Coppertone Glow Sunscreen (Love this for beach and pool days, it makes you glow!)
Neova Silc Sheer 2.0 Photo Finish Tint (another great option, it does okay under makeup)
SuperGoop Unseen Sunscreen (One of my absolute favorites. It is completely sheer and performs excellently under makeup, not pictured)
SuperGoop SuperScreen Daily Moisturizer
Trader Joes SPF Lip Balm (we also need to protect our lips!)
Aquaphor Ointment Body Spray (the moisturizer that looks amazing! You’ll look shiny in the best way).
Lubriderm Daily Moisture Body Lotion (not pictured, has a minimal sunscreen scent, and doesn’t leave a white cast)
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen (not pictured, but it’s pretty much scentless and is clear!)
That wraps up my summer 2020 beauty favorites! Hope you all enjoyed, let me know which part of summer beauty is the most important or exciting for you 🙂
With Love,
Jenna
