Three Audrey Hepburn Films To Watch This Spring/Summer:

Something that you guys may not know about me, that also may not be that shocking, is that I love old movies and old Hollywood. I’m not sure what it is but for most of my life I have always been drawn to the 50’s/60’s era for both music and movies. In fact, I remember watching “Singing in the Rain” and other films with my mom often when I was very young. I would imitate Lina Lamont to the best of my ability and watch in awe of all the arts involved in that single movie. I’d like to think that is where my love for movies began, but the one thing I know for certain is that I have always wanted to be an actress and work in movies. There is something about old Hollywood that just speaks to me and fills my soul with so much happiness. All of that said, I absolutely adore Audrey Hepburn. Some of my all time favorite films are ones that she was involved in. While I enjoy watching her movies all year round, there are some that I connect to more during the spring and summer months. I decided to share those films with you in case you have never seen them, because they are must-sees in my eyes! If you’ve never watched an older movie, I think some of these films are a great place to start!:)

 

1. Roman Holiday:

One of the most classic 50’s films and Audrey Hepburn’s breakout role, this is a feel good movie with a charming depiction of Rome. Audrey plays Ann, a princess who is becoming weary of her monotonous, dutiful life. On one of her tour stops in Rome, Princess Ann attempts an escape that doesn’t go according to plan before falling in the arms of her “rescuer”, Gregory Peck’s character Joe Bradley. Joe Bradley happens to be an American journalist, and is ready to let Princess Ann unwind and have fun in Rome, giving him the opportunity to catch the photographs and story of a lifetime. 

 

2. Funny Face:

This is my personal favorite Audrey Hepburn movie. Audrey’s character Jo is a modest bookstore clerk who ends up with the shock of her life when a top fashion magazine not only decides to have a spontaneous photoshoot at the book store without permission, but also gets convinced by Fred Astaire’s character Dick Avery and Kay Thompson’s character Maggie Prescott to join them on a trip to Paris to model for the magazine. A movie that is filled with music, charisma, color and simply stunning scenes, this film is a must see.

 

3. Sabrina:

Following Roman Holiday, Audrey Hepburn starred as Sabrina Fairchild in the movie “Sabrina.” Sabrina is a girl who’s in love with one of the sons (William Holden) of the rich family her father is a chauffeur for. After a failed suicide attempt due to William Holden’s character, David Larrabee, not noticing her, Sabrina is sent to Paris. She returns home a dazzling and sophisticated woman. Now David can’t keep his eyes off her, but it turns out Larrabee’s brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) might end up being a better fit for Sabrina. The film mostly takes place in Long Island with beautiful scenes, won an Oscar for Best Costume Design and landed Audrey another Oscar Nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. It is definitely worth seeing in my eyes!
